Both our own servers and many of our customer’s servers are located at our Data Centre facility in the Maidstone TV Studios. Consequently we can keep a very close eye and respond rapidly with a full compliment of technical staff which are only 30 seconds away!
Capacity Increase!
We are launching a new area of private suites and shared racking areas as part of our next development phase at our Maidstone facility. The new area will provide capacity for 180 high-power racks, into which we can provide almost unlimited power in every rack. As standard our racks now come with 16 amps each and we can supply several times that amount of power if required.
This will be protected by full N+1 generator and UPS backup, as well as intelligent fire suppression systems and dynamic environmentally friendly air-management systems.More to come on this development very soon...
Network Update!
We are also now in discussions with several Tier 1 carriers, including
Global Crossing and three other international fibre IP transporters. We are constructing a new carrier facility here where our clients will be able to pick up a carrier of their choosing from within our racking areas. More to come soon....
Strategic Location
Data centres in City locations not only suffer from high running costs, but are also exposed to an ever-increasing risk of disruption by terrorism and a very vulnerable transport infrastructure. Traditional hosting centres such as London and Manchester are losing their appeal, and other out of city locations are often quite inaccessible and have been prone to natural disasters like flooding; this is risky particularly when business continuity is at stake.
Our Data Centre is located just 30 miles from central London, less than 1 minute from M20, only 5 minutes from the M2. Direct rail links and fast trains to and from London are also just 5 minutes away. In short, it is close enough to London to be practical, but far enough to be safe.
Connectivity
Our data centre is directly attached to the NTL / Telewest edge routers in Kent, providing 1 hop access to their primary network backbone. This allows us to provide exceptionally low packet loss, super fast transfers and incredibly high resilience. All our equipment is fully fail-over capable and we can suffer multiple concurrent equipment failures and still continue to function unhindered. However, as mentioned above we are in the process of securing carrier partnerships with several major carriers and will soon be carrier neutral.
Security
The Data Centre is located within a ring-fenced Television Studio and media hub on the outskirts of Maidstone. Physical security features include fencing to all boundaries, 24/7/365 manned and patrolled external security. Monitored CCTV coupled with internal patrols linked by radio. In addition, a centrally controlled access system monitors and manages all aspects of access into the facility and within the site as a whole. The server rooms are again protected by PIN and Card combination entry, requiring not only an authorized user’s access card but also the matching unique code.
Power
We have 3 private sub-stations on site and twin EDF grid feeds. The Data Centre is also supported by full UPS protection and an automatically fired backup Diesel Generator which takes over from the UPS within 30 seconds. So down-time through power-loss is virtually eliminated. All systems are tested on a regular basis to ensure they are ready at a moments notice.
Environmental Controls
We have fully redundant air conditioning systems, monitored24/7 with remote alarms both on and off site. In addition to that we have gas-based fire suppression systems in key parts of the facility, which are designed to extinguish fires without disrupting electrical systems. This means that even a major incident in one device will not stop any other equipment from running.
Growth
We are looking launch our new rack areas over the coming few months - after the successful formation of a Joint Venture with the Maidstone Television Studios. This means we can cope with virtually any kind of customer requirements, including anything from custom private data suites to simple dedicated rack space and bandwidth. Our first phase is for a new area of 180 racks....
Broadcast Circuit and Satellite Channel Access
For our media based clients, we provide access to BT Tower via broadcast fibres, as well as downstream and upstream satellite dish access. We have a comprehensive range of capabilities as a result of our partnership with the Studios and can assist with the setup of any media based hosting / steaming applications by connecting you with our in-house experts.
